Education: Ph.D. Physics and Mathematics, Kazan State University, Russia
Biography: Irina has been teaching at UNC Charlotte since 2010, starting as an Assistant Professor and working up to her current role as Professor. She specializes in experimental biophysics, and her lab in the Science building on campus aims to understand the molecular logic underlying the biological function. Current projects include: protein-protein interactions in chemokine family, plant defensins, structure-function-dynamics of proteins, and translational diffusion of proteins. These projects are funded by UNC Charlotte, the American Heart Association, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, NIGMS (National Institute of General Medical Sciences), Civilian Research and Development Foundation Global, and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.
